Government assures Oguaa of Accra-Elubo railway

Government has assured the chiefs and people of Oguaa, that the construction of a railway line from Accra to Cape Coast through Takoradi to Elubo.

The Minister for Railway Development, Joe Ghartey,  who represented President Akufo-Addo said this in response to a request made by The Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta at a Durbar to climaxed this year’s Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast.

Fetu Afahye is an annual festival celebrated by the people and chiefs of Cape Coast Traditional Area in the Central Region of Ghana.

It is also observed to commemorate a bumper harvest from the sea as well as performing rituals to thank the 77 gods of Oguaa Traditional Area.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta stressed the need for a Railway in Cape Coast to open up the city and ensure growth and development.

Joe Ghartey said feasibility studies on the Trans Ecowas Railway project which is from Lome -through Accra to Cape Coast to Elubo by November this year.

The Central Regional Minister, Kwamina Duncan, for his part, hinted of government plans to undertake project dubbed: ‘Coastal protection’ that will ensure protection of coastal communities and infrastructures along the coast.
