Nana Acheamfuor Asiedu Agyemang Kwahu Abetifihene, Kwahu Adontehene, who is now the Acting Paramount Chief of Kwahu, has officially confirmed the destoolment of the Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong following Kwahumanhene’s involvement in a two million Ghana cedis scandal during his tenure as the board Chairman of the Agriculture Development Bank, ADB..
He made the confirmation when the Eastern Regional Security Council, REGSEC, led by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong, visited his palace at Abetifi to have first-hand information on the issue as part of REGSEC’s peace campaign tour of the 11 Paramountcies in the region ahead of the December 2024 General Elections.
He further explained that the destoolment was initiated by the Abene Kingmakers, in line with Akan customary protocols similar to those same process that was used during Omanhene’s installation.
Nana Agyeman stated that Kwahu’s customs and traditions are similar to those guiding traditional leadership in other Akan Traditional juridictions.
Explaining the reason for his destoolment, he said when the issue came to light, the Senior Traditional leaders (Chiefs) of Kwahu approached former Omanhene to acertain the truth of the matter, but he denied outright. . Upon further interrogation at former Omanhene’s home in Accra, he finally confessed to committing the blunder. Lying to your fellow chiefs and citizens, he said violates the fundamentals of the Oath that Chiefs swear at the time of their installation.
Nana Asiedu Agyemang further stated that the Chiefs saw this act as shameful to the entire Kwahu State, hence his destoolment.
He stated the Chiefs had tasked some Kwahu Youth to help guard and protect the Abene Palace and appealed to the Regional Security Council to beef up security in the area to ensure peace.
He said the Traditional Council would convene an emergency meeting to further deliberate on the matter.
He urged all in the Kwahu enclave to remain calm ahead of nomination of a candidate by Nana Kwahumanhemaa and subsequent installation of a new Kwahumanhene by the Abene Kingmakers.
The Minister said the meeting was very important since his team, comprising of the Regional Security Council membership, would be guided by the information they had gathered from the meeting interaction during their visit.
Mr. Acheampong emphasized the role Traditional and Religious leaders play in disseminating the peace message across the country.
He commended the chiefs for handling the issue without chaos and pledged his support to the Kwahu Traditional Council to settle the issue amicably.
From Abetifi, the team proceeded to Mpraeso where they engaged all the religious leaders on the Kwahu ridge on the need to use their pulpit to preach peace to their members ahead of the December 7 polls.
