This is victory for Ghanaians: Okudzeto Ablakwa reacts to SSNIT back-down on sale of Hotels

Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for the dissolution of the SSNIT Board. To him, the board failed to manage the assets of SSNIT.

Organised Labour declared an indefinite strike beginning Monday following the National Pensions Regulatory Authority’s (NPRA) approval giving clearance to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to proceed with its controversial plan to offload a 60% stake in four hotels to Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel.

Rock City has withdrawn its bid, with SSNIT later issuing a statement to terminate the process to divest 60% of its stake in the four hotels.

Speaking on TV3, Mr Ablakwa said the transaction advisors raised issues with the deal, which the Board ignored.

He said this while crediting all Ghanaians, especially labour unions, for the pressure mounted against the sale of the hotels belonging to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), which has led to the discontinuation of the sale.

He said this is a victory for organised labour. “This is a victory for the Ghanaian people’s organised labour; it is not my personal victory.”
