Accra: Central University library goes digital

The Central University has launched its Online Public Access Catalogue, CU-OPAC as part of its library week in Accra. The CU-OPAC, accessibility is to strengthen the crucial bond between the library, the classroom and the home.

Established twenty years ago, the Central University Library, seeks to promote the library resources and services as well as encourage the effective use of the facility. The month of October has been earmarked to observe the library week annually.

This years on the theme   “CU Library @ 20; enhancing access to scholarly information. With just a click of the button, a registered student or staff can access the online data by going to central university website (www.central.edu.gh).

Navigate to the right wing of the website and click on “CU library”.

  • Click on e-services, there will be a drop-down list.
  • Click on online databases.
  • select the database appropriate for your use.

The Library’s database are academic databases that have scholarly peer reviewed articles to help researchers with their academic work. As part of the library week celebration students were registered from the University’s various campuses.

In a panel discussion on the topic ” the effective use of students Thesis, Dissertation and Project work. The acting Librarian of the Methodist University College, Ghana, Mrs. Evelyn Tetteh said research works are displayed in libraries to serve as reference to others.

This she said with the online database, information would easily be gathered and authenticated before posting online. She encouraged the students to make good use of the facility.

A final year MBA student of the Central University, Marjorie Bruce said even though enough attention has not been paid to student research work, students must rather take the opportunity to present a copy of their finished work to companies they collected data from.

A lecturer from the faculty of Theology and Missions, Dr. Joseph Boadi said policymakers must make good use of research work such as project, thesis and dissertation to implement certain policies for national development referring to countries such as Sweden, Hungary and Switzerland.

The head of the library directorate of the Central University, Mataheko campus, Mrs. Francisca Yaba Asante said with all the online information provided if a student feels there is a book the the library should have, a purchase suggestion may be placed on the CUPAC. Books were presented to participants of the discussion.
