The Accra-Nsawam Railway line will start commercial operations before the end of the year. The line on September 12 suffered derailment during a test run.
Currently, it is undergoing test runs to guarantee its safety, before commercial operations.
In an exclusive interview with GBC’s Ernest Obeng-Anim, Deputy Minister of Railways Development and MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi said the workers are working hard to ensure that everything is on schedule for the commercial operation of the Accra-Nsawam Railway line.
President Akufo-Addo’s government since coming into office 2017 has been taking measures to revamp the Railway sector to reduce congestion, increase the lifespan of roads and to facilitate the transportation of heavy freight.
Currently, the Accra-Tema stretch through to the harbour is operating while the Accra-Nsawam line after its test runs will be put into full operation.
Deputy Minister of Railways Development and MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi told GBC’s Radio Ghana work done so far on the Accra-Nsawam line in readiness for commercial operations by the end of the year.
Mr Appiah-Kubi also spoke about work on the Nsawam-Koforidua stretch which is expected to become operational before the close of the year.
He urged Ghanaians to stop encroaching on railway lands to enable the work to progress rapidly.
