Some youth groups in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern region are kicking against what they describe as moves by the Lands Commission to sell government land to a private developer.
They alleged that a private developer intends to buy and develop a land at WARD K, a suburb of Sagnarigu, but the youth say they will resist all attempts by anyone who intend to buy or sell the said land.
They want the lands to be returned to the chiefs if government has no use for them.
They spoke in an interview with GBC’s northern regional correspondent, Joyce kantam Kolamong.
The Assemblyman of the area, Salim Abukari, expressed worry about the rate at which government lands are being sold especially in the Northern region.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Lands Commission has refuted claims of selling state lands.
According to the Regional Board Chairman, Dubik Mahama Yakubu, the Commission is not aware of any sale of land at WARD K and impressed on the agitated youth to produce evidence or document to that effect.
