The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Dr. Mrs. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has called for optimum collaboration between management and staff of the Ministry for the realisation of the government’s vision for the Gender Ministry.
Addressing management during her assumption of office, the new sector Minister said the Gender Ministry plays a key role in the total development of Ghanaians; therefore, her meeting will enable her to acquaint herself with the operations of the ministry and better position her to work with all to enhance the operations of the Ministry.
“My engagement with the management staff is to receive briefings, which is to dovetail me take off smoothly and properly. What you assume or see from behind is different from what you see when you sit in a particular chair; therefore, the need to better understand what happens there is vital to your success.”
According to Dr. Lartey, every organisation that has performed and survived till now has a secret behind its success, and that is what she is poised to identify, motivate, strengthen, and improve on.
She recounted that President Mahama’s comment on Social Protection and the School Feeding Programme, which he described as hurdles, stood out during the various briefings, stressing that with collaborations, her Ministry will work to address these issues.
Touching on the numerous departments and areas under the Ministry, coupled with the issue of inadequate funding, she indicated that with their collective efforts, they will be able to surmount this challenge.
“I’m going to work with a couple of experienced hands, and with my background as a Development Practitioner and having worked in the Civil Society Organisations sector for a while and with their support base, I believe we’ll be able to resolve the social protection issues and those surrounding the School feeding Programme and have a more concrete welfare scheme for Ghanaians.”
She expressed her zeal to ensure that most Ghanaians are taken out of the poverty bracket into doing better for themselves.
Dr. Mrs. Lartey reiterated her gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in her. “This is an opportunity to serve the good people of Ghana, and I don’t take it for granted.”
