President of Agriculture Chamber of Commerce, Philip Abayori, says prices of foodstuffs are relatively high in the country due to the challenge posed by the lack of enough haulage trucks to transport food to the marketing centres.
Mr. Abayori said the situation was compounded by the partial lockdown which affected movement of goods and services.
Reacting to the sector Minister’s Covid-19 briefing, Mr. Abayori said now that the lockdown has been lifted prices of food would drop.
He said there is enough food to feed the nation but what government needs to do now is to support the transport haulage sector with soft loans to ensure rapid and even distribution of food from the hinter land.
Mr. Abayori called for the construction of large scale irrigation facilities for farmers to do all year round farming for export.
