Police in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region have arrested two men, Dzagey William and Agbemenyo Yao, in connection with the suspected ritual murder of Agbodzi Konor.
Agbodzi, who went missing on Friday, 10th January 2025, was found dead after a three-day search by his community. His body had been mutilated, with vital organs including his head, heart, and testicles removed.
According to his girlfriend, Agbodzi was attacked by William, her ex-husband, and Yao while having lunch during a break from cutting firewood. William allegedly shot Agbodzi in the face and later forced the girlfriend to remain silent about the incident, threatening her life.
She fled to Accra but later returned to assist the police, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
Dzagey William, who is also a local political figure, is reported to have threatened Agbodzi in the past, allegedly due to political rivalry and a personal dispute over his ex-wife.
The Akatsi North New Patriotic Party Chairman, Godfred Kudalor, praised the police and community leaders for their swift action. He also claimed that threats from William had previously been dismissed as political talk.
The police have retrieved Agbodzi’s body and the missing organs, which are now at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dzodze. The family has called for expedited investigations to ensure justice and enable them to bury the deceased promptly.
