The Volta River Authority (VRA) has started the spillage of the Akosombo, and Kpong Dams.

The Authority has therefore cautioned residents downstream to be alert and take precautionary measures following the controlled spillage in the coming days. In a statement the VRA said this is due to the consistent rise in the water level in the two dams as a result of the continuous rains recently.

The statement further said the Emergency Preparedness Plan and Standard Operating Procedures have been activated and key stakeholders notified of the development.

The statement gave the assurance that the VRA will continue to monitor the situation, work with key stakeholders, and provide regular updates to ensure prompt response to any emergency that may arise.
