President Akufo-Addo has commended the Ghana Water Company Limited for completing the rehabilitation of the Salaga water system project.

In 2017, the President directed that the Salaga water supply system be placed under the urban water supply category.

The Ghana Water Company Limited took over the operations of the Salaga water system and injected more than 10 million Ghana cedis into the project.

Twenty-one standpipes, comprising 15 in Salaga township, five in Kpembe and one in Masaka have been installed.

The Managing Director of GWCL, Dr. Clifford Braimah, who accompanied the President on the visit, revealed that two staff bungalows, together with a treatment and pump house have been renovated.

Meanwhile, the President has assured the Chiefs and people of the North East Gonja district that their request for the construction of a district hospital and a senior high school will be addressed.

He said his administration puts a great premium on infrastructure for the new regions.

On the provision of water, President Akufo-Addo said the Ministry for Special Development Initiative’s programme of constructing small water systems in all parts of the country will be extended to the North East Gonja district as well.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, assured the people of Salaga that the 138-kilometer Tamale-Salaga-Makango Road will be completed by the end of the year.

He noted that the completion of the stretch will enhance the economic activities of the region.
