President Akufo Addo has launched phase two of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ), to modernise and transform Ghana’s agriculture as well as ensure food security.

The launch of phase two follows the successful implementation of phase one of the planting for food and jobs programme which, according to government, saw a significant improvement in the agricultural sector.

President Akufo Addo launched the Planting for Food and Jobs programme in 2017. The initiative, government’s flagship agricultural campaign, aimed at boosting the agricultural sector through mechanisation, the use of improved seeds, and increased access to agrochemicals such as fertilisers and pesticides.

The programme had five modules, including planting for food crops, planting for export and rural development (PERD), greenhouse technology villages, rearing for food and jobs (RFJ) as well as agricultural mechanisation services (AMSECs) module. Following the successful implementation of phase one, government hopes to leverage the success of the five modules with increased private sector participation.

The Minister for Agriculture noted that the second phase of the project will see increased large-scale farming across the country.

President Akufo-Addo lauded the support of the World Bank and other institutions that contributed to the success of the first phase of the project.

The event attracted massive participation, including chiefs from across the Northern region, including the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama.
