President Akufo-Addo has expressed deep condolences to the Kantamanto traders following a destructive fire that engulfed the market in Accra on January 2, 2025.
During his final State of the Nation address (SONA) on Friday, January 3, 2025, the President acknowledged the tragedy facing many traders and assured the affected individuals of government’s support during this challenging period.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Thursday, left many traders and market vendors in shock, as it destroyed both property and livelihoods in one of the busiest commercial hubs in the country.
“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market, which took place yesterday and has left many traders and their livelihoods in ruins.
My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hardworking traders who have lost their goods and investments. Government stands with you, and will work with relevant agencies to ascertain the causes of the fire, and to provide the needed support. As a nation, let us unite in compassion and solidarity to help those who have suffered losses. Together, we can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in need during this challenging time,” Akufo-Addo said.
He extended his heartfelt sympathies to those who lost their goods and investments in the fire, sending thoughts and prayers to all those impacted.
President Akufo-Addo also emphasised government’s commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to investigate the root causes of the fire and provide necessary assistance to the affected traders.
He urged the nation to come together in compassion and solidarity to aid those who have suffered losses in the devastating incident.
