The move comes as galamsey has gained widespread notoriety, prompting demands from various unions and associations for the President to declare a state of emergency to tackle the issue.

The five-member committee is led by the

  1. National Security Minister, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah
Other members of the committee are:
  2. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor
  3. Minister for Defense, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
  4. Minister for Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah
  5. Minister for information, Fatimatu Abubakar

The committee’s formation is a response to the growing concerns about the environmental and social impacts of galamsey, and aims to develop effective strategies to address the menace.
