The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has closed down the Luxury Movie House located at North Kaneshie for contravening provisions in the Public Health Act, 2012 (851) and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s Bye-laws 2017.
Director of the Public Health Department of the AMA, Madam Florence Kuukyi, who led the team to close down the facility said that the closure follows a court order secured by the Assembly from the La magistrate court in Accra.
She said the action forms part of efforts to crackdown on unhygienic activities in the city.
He explained that the assembly on October 1, 2019 served a notice for managers of the facility to obtain health certificates for staff operating at its canteen and an environmental suitability report as well as discontinue discharging their septic tank content into a public drain but failed to abate the nuisance.
She disclosed that the assembly subsequently served the managers of the facility with a court summon on November 15, 2019 to appear before the La Magistrate court but failed to adhere to it after which a bench warrant was effected on February 3, 2020 and the order to close down the facility.
