National Ambulance Service saves over 10,000 lives in Bono Region

The National Ambulance Service says it saved 10,135 lives between 2014 to 2023 in the Bono Region.

The area covered beneficiaries according to the Regional Manager, Alfred Kwabena Amoah, were saved during different emergency health issues, ranging from road traffic accidents, maternal, and paediatric cases, medical cases, and some special duty cases among other cases.

Mr. Amoah spoke to the media at the Bono Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Excellence Awards and Fundraising organized by the National Ambulance Service in Sunyani.

The colorful event was attended by the CEO of the NAS, Prof Ahmed Nuhu Zakaria, Former Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, staff of the NAS from the 12 Districts and Municipalities of the Bono Region as well as some sister security agencies.

The Bono Regional Manager of NAS, Alfred Kwabena Amoah giving an account of successes chalked up so far said, the NAS has saved over 10,000 lives between 2014 and 2023 in the Bono region.

He said the beneficiaries had different emergency health issues, ranging from road traffic accidents, maternal, pediatric, and medical cases among others.

Mr. Amoah however called for additional ambulances in areas like Abesim, Chiraa, and Seikwa to facilitate quick response to emergencies.

On challenges, Mr. Amoah expressed worry over the disregard for sirens by a section of road users and called on the public to give way whenever they hear the sound of a siren.

Deserving staff were given awards for their contribution to saving lives in the region with the 2023 EMS personnel of the year going to the second in command of the Sunyani Ambulance Station, Joseph Kusi Frimpong.

The CEO of the National Ambulance Service, Prof Ahmed Nuhu Zakaria later broke the ground for the construction of the Regional Office of the NAS in the Bono Region.
