Participants of the 12th edition of the Specialized Training for Anglophone Broadcasters had a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of cinema during their visit to the ongoing 45th Cairo International Film Festival.

The visit, organized as part of the two-week training program hosted by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, Training, and Media Studies, gave media professionals a firsthand experience of one of the Arab world and Africa’s most prestigious film festivals.

The Cairo International Film Festival, running from November 13 to 22, 2024, is headquartered at the iconic Cairo Opera House and showcases 190 films from 72 countries.

Recognized as the only Category A festival in the Arab and African regions by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, the Cairo International Film Festival offers a vibrant platform for cultural exchange and cinematic excellence.

Accompanied by the festival’s director, technical critic Issam Zakaria, and the director of the Journalist Center, critic Khaled Mahmoud, the broadcasters toured several festival venues, including the Cairo Opera House Open Theater, the Hanager Center, and the Supreme Council of Culture. Mr Zakaria shared insights into the festival’s rich history, emphasizing its role as a bridge connecting African and Arab filmmakers to the global stage.

The participants were also introduced to the inner workings of the festival, including a visit to its press center, where they observed the backstage operations that keep the Cairo International Film Centre running smoothly.

They explored how the festival uses digital tools and media strategies to engage audiences worldwide, aligning with the training program’s focus on effective content creation for digital platforms.

The visit also offered participants a chance to see screenings and engage in discussions about the role of cinema in addressing global issues. ‎
