Chairperson of the National Cathedral Project and Former Chairman of Church of Pentecost, Apostle, Prof. Opoku Onyinah, has reminded Ghanaians of the need to continue to contribute to the early completion of the National Cathedral Project.
He said although the project has faced some opposition, God will raise people who will support the construction. He added that they will continue to provide education to ensure a majority of the populace understands the importance of the project. Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, was speaking at a Bible Reading Marathon and Sacred Worship Event at the National Cathedral Project site.
The three-day national Bible Reading Marathon is taking place at the construction site of the National Cathedral. It is open to the general public who can walk in at their convenience to read any verse of the scripture with an expectation that the entire Bible would be read at the end of the three days event. Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, said scripture reading is a key feature of monuments such as cathedrals. He noted that patronage has been encouraging. He appealed to well-meaning Ghanaians to donate generously towards the project.
“Bible reading is one of the main activities that goes on in Temples, Cathedral and Basilicas, so we thought that as the Lord has helped us to be able to lay the foundation, we should begin some of the activities that go on in Cathedrals, that’s why we have begun this Bible reading. This is a very busy time but when we saw that some people have managed to come here to read the Bible, we are very encouraged about that. We want to constantly appeal to people make them aware that the project is ongoing, we need money to continue the project. ” Apostle Prof. Onyinah noted
A Member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, was hopeful the national cathedral project will be completed. She was also optimistic the Bible reading marathon will be an annual event which would be replicated in other regions.
“There is no other activity, except the reading of the word of God. It’s from Genesis to Revelation. We don’t want to be rigid so that we will say, oh Kofi can read but Ama cannot read, no. I pray that it becomes an annual event, it will be wonderful and I pray that it will go to all the regions. You know some people apart from going to church and having lessons read, never have the opportunity to hear the whole word of God.” Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee said
Some participants who spoke with GBC NEWS believe that the event will help them renew their faith and encourage others to donate to the project.
