President Akufo-Addo says the government will rebuild the village of Appiatse and resettle residents after an explosion wiped out the Community.
He said the government will formulate policies that will shape the future and safety of Mines.
President Akufo-Addo announced this when the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Goldfields Group, Chris Griffith paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.
Bright Ntramah reports that Appiatse, a Mining Community near Bogoso in the Western Region was last week rocked with an explosion killing more than 17 people and destroying hundreds of buildings .
President Akufo-Addo has since directed the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Abu Jinapor to launch a fund to support victims of the incident.
In his first public comment after the incident, President Akufo-Addo said the government will find a new and acceptable way of mining that will protect the citizens and the environment. He said his administration will build a better future from the tragic incident.
CEO, Goldfields Group, Chris Griffith pledged to support ongoing efforts to rebuild the village and help to resettle residents.
He was accompanied by Joshua Mortoti, Ag. Executive Vice President and Head, Goldfields West Africa.
Present was the Land and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor.
