The Ghana Red Cross Society has begun processes to provide grants to victims of the recent disaster that occurred at Appiatse near Bogoso in the Western Region when a truck load of mining explosives blasted in the Community. The grants are expected to partially alleviate the plights of victims of the disaster until a permanent solution is rolled out to address their challenges. This was disclosed by the Secretary General of the Society, Kofi Addo at a media engagement organised for some selected media houses in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.
The media engagement was aimed at highlighting achievements and challenges of the Red Cross in the country to design strategies to enhance their activities. Secretary General of the Society, Kofi Addo said although the Red Cross society seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering globally, mobilisation of resources has been one of its key challenges. Mr Addo appealed to corporate Ghana and individuals to support the Red Cross to help the vulnerable in society, including the Appiatse victims.
The Volta Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Gershon Dzokoto said the Society plays an active role in the immunization and prevention of polio, Covid-19, yellow fever, malaria, meningitis among others. It also organises health sensitization programs at the community level as well as providing psychosocial support to the vulnerable.
