Reports from Kumasi say hundreds of commuters from the Ashanti Region are stranded and frustrated over the unavailability of transport to their destinations.
The situation has been compounded by the influx of students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, who were returning to Accra for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
At the VIP Neoplan Terminal, only a handful of buses were available as at midday, when our News Team got there.
The commuters, visibly exhausted, shared their experiences with GBC’s Radio Ghana.
The Transport operators gave the assurance that enough buses will come from Accra to ease the pressure.
Mr. Francis Asamoah, the 2nd Trustee of the VIP Neoplan Station Union, noted, that the drivers and conductors have been advised not to take undue advantage of the situation to compromise on road safety.
At the State Transport Company terminal at Asafo, the situation was not any different. At the 2M Express terminal, only one minibus was available as at 1pm.
Meanwhile, almost every route within the Kumasi Metropolis is experiencing a gridlock and has left internal commuters frustrated.
