The 2021 Statistics on teenage pregnancy in Ghana by the Ghana Health Service reveal that the Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of cases.
Official records put the teenage pregnancy figure in the region at 572, which has been described by the Regional Directorate as alarming.
As part of efforts to sensitize the youth on matters relating to their sexual reproductive health, the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Youth Authority has rolled out a series of advocacy programmes.
One of such advocacies has taken place in Kumasi.
The thrust of these advocacies are to sensitize particularly adolescents on their sexual reproductive rights and provide them with relevant skill training so they channel their energies and exuberance into positive ventures.
Director of Programmes at the Regional Directorate of the National Youth Authority, Archibald Donkor explained that specific measures have been put in place to curb the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in Ashanti.
Mr. Donkor emphasized the need for stakeholders to join the fight against the teenage pregnancy menace in the region.
