Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has urged newly enrolled lawyers to distinguish themselves by upholding the ethics of the profession.
She said building a good reputation is as important as the experience they will develop in the legal profession through continuous learning.
Chief Justice Torkornoo was speaking at a ceremony in Accra on Friday, October 20, 2023, to enroll newly qualified lawyers to the Bar.
One thousand and ninety-seven new lawyers were Called to the Bar.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is one of the newly qualified lawyers. She said it had been her long-held desire to be a lawyer.
In view of that she worked relentlessly towards that dream and was happy to be finally Called to the Bar at the age of sixty.
In a Twitter now, ‘X’ post, she wrote with a picture, cap and gown, ”Grateful and thankful”.
Also graduating is the Director General of Ghana Lotteries, Sammy Awuku.
He also posted a picture in a cap and gown on Facebook and wrote that ”embarking on this journey was quite daunting”.
”Years of long hours of lectures, sleepless nights, engaging in unending group discussions and reading volumes of books have finally paid off in birthing an added career path for us”.
”I am immensely grateful to my lecturers, seniors, colleagues, and family, who played a significant role in attaining this success”.
Sammy Awuku also wished his other colleagues in political circles, Vincent Asafuah and Ayorkor Botwey who also graduated the best of luck!
”Congratulations to my learned colleagues, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the MP for Tafo, Hon. Ekow Vincent Asafuah, and all the friends and colleagues who are being called to the bar today.”
”May God’s light continue to guide us on this path we have chosen,” Sammy Awuku wrote.
