Barker-Vormawor granted ¢20k bail after several unsuccessful attempts

Leader of the Democracy Hub and convenor of the anti-galamsey protest, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been granted bail in the sum of ¢20,000.

Mr.Barker Vormawor who was arrested during a demonstration against illegal mining, locally known as galamsey was granted bail on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, after three unsuccessful attempts.

His previous bail had been denied by both the Accra High Court and the circuit court.

According to police reports, Mr. Barker-Vormawor was apprehended for participating in unlawful activities during the protest, though specific details regarding his alleged misconduct are still under investigation.

One incident that contributed to his arrest involved him taking the keys from a police van parked at the protest site.

Despite facing challenges, the activist remains resolute in his opposition to galamsey, continuing to advocate for environmental reforms and greater accountability in the battle against illegal mining.
