Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s lawyers have firmly denied any connection between their client and allegations of bribery involving majority members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

Their response follows a summons from the Committee after a social media post attributed to Barker-Vormawor claimed that its members had accepted bribes. However, his legal team clarified that another post on his Facebook page, which accused all committee members of taking bribes before vetting, was not intended to tarnish their reputation.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, Barker-Vormawor’s lead counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, firmly stated: “The statement is fake; this is not coming from Mr Vormawor. He never posted that statement. The statement reads: ‘NDC members on the Appointments Committee take monies from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them, and the Deputy Speaker must submit himself to ORAL.’ This is not from Mr. Vormawor.”

His lawyer explained that the post was merely meant to inform the public about reports that had come to Barker-Vormawor’s attention.
