Barker-Vormawor files defence, seeks ¢10m counterclaims against National Security Minister

Lawyers for Political Activist, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, led by Dr. Justice Srem Sai, have filed their Statement of Defence in defence of a GHc10 million defamation suit against their client.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor and his lawyer, in addition to their Statement of Defence, are seeking a counterclaim against the National Security Minister, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah (the Plaintiff).

Mr. Kan Dapaah is seeking a GHc10 million defamation suit against the lawyer cum political activist for alleged bribery comments made against him (the National Security Minister) in September 2023.

In an 8-page Statement of Defence and Counterclaims filed on Friday, December 12, Mr. Barker-Vormawor, who is the defendant, said, among other things, that the minister conspired to harm him.

He is seeking a counterclaim as follows:

a). declaration that Plaintiff did, in his capacity as the minister of national security, offer to Defendant monies, plane tickets, appointment to a public office, and other facilities in his bid to procure Plaintiff to abandon his activism with the #FixTheCountry movement,

b). A declaration that Defendant did reject Plaintiff’s offers of money, airplane tickets, appointment to a public office, and other facilities and, rather, insisted on continuing with his activism with the FixTheCountry movement,

c). A declaration that the Plaintiff did cause, conspire to cause, or was complicit

in causing the arrest, detention, torture, threats of harm and death, abuse, and harassment, of the Defendant and, also, complicit in the false prosecution which the Defendant has been going through since February 2021,

d). Damages,

e). Cost (including attorney fee), and

f). Any other orders that the Court may deem fit.
