PFC Ludogorets Razgrad forward Bernard Tekpetey took a remarkable step towards saving lives on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, by organising a blood donation programme at the University of Ghana Athletic Oval.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Bernard Tekpetey Foundation in collaboration with the National Blood Service, witnessed an impressive turnout as hundreds of donors came forward to support the cause.

In his address, Tekpetey highlighted the critical need for such initiatives. He explained, “We face numerous challenges when it comes to blood. Previously, we had a significant issue. I realised there was a shortage of blood, which led to the loss of lives. This prompted me to discuss the matter with the CEO of the National Blood Service, and we agreed to organise an event like this to support people, save lives, and make a meaningful impact on human lives.”

The event was not just about collecting blood; it was also a community affair that saw the attendance of notable personalities. Among those who graced the occasion were Belgium-based footballer David Atanga and Joshua of Keche fame. Their presence helped to draw more attention to the importance of blood donation and added a touch of celebrity endorsement to the event.

The success of the blood donation drive was a testament to the power of community and celebrity influence in addressing critical health issues. Donors expressed their satisfaction with being part of a life-saving mission and lauded Tekpetey for using his platform to bring such an essential cause to the forefront. The event also featured educational segments where participants learned about the continuous need for blood donations and how their contributions could save lives.

Bernard Tekpetey’s initiative has set a precedent for other sports personalities to follow. By leveraging his influence for a noble cause, he has not only highlighted the urgent need for blood donations but has also demonstrated how athletes can play a pivotal role in societal well-being.
