Chairman of the Board of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Prof Emmanuel Adow Obeng, has called for the strengthening of Ghana’s Court Systems to fast track election related cases.

According to him, the long periods election related cases stay at the courts, reduce confidence in them, a situation which makes people resort to using vigilantes and violence to address their grievances.

He cited the 2012 election petition which took almost a year for the case to be concluded.

Speaking on GTV’s programme, ‘WHAT IS NEXT’ which discussed preparations towards peaceful elections in December, Prof Adow Obeng said apart from empowering the courts, youth in areas identified as hotspots must be sensitized not to engage in violence instead of just sending security personnel to the areas on election day.

Prof Adow Obeng called on media houses to blacklist persons who use intemperate language on air to inflame passions and cause violence.
