Earlier reports indicated that three miners were trapped, one of them is said to have managed to escape while the remaining two lost their lives in the incident.
The Asante Akim Central Municipal NADMO Director, Jones Osei Asamoah, speaking to the media confirmed that the pit caved in while the illegal miners were inside, searching for gold deposits.
He said the bodies were recovered with the assistance of an excavator and local community members. He added that the bodies have been transferred to the morgue for further examination and identification.
