Body of Former UN Boss Kofi Annan arrives in Ghana Today

The mortal remains of Former UN Secretary Busumuru Kofi Atta Annan will arrive at the Kotoka International Airport, Monday, September 10, 2018, at 1600 hours and will be received by Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a brief military ceremony.

This was in a statement issued by the Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide in Accra.

The statement which was copied to gbconghanaonline.com said the body will be laid in state for filing past and paying of last respect by the public and dignitaries respectively on Tuesday, 11 and Wednesday 12, September 2018 at the Foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) from 1000 to 1600 hours daily.

“The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ghana has granted approval for a state funeral with full military honours for the late Mr. Kofi Atta Annan, former Secretary General of the UN who died on Friday 18 August 2018 in Bern – Switzerland, on Thursday 13 September 2018.” The statement said.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS OF THE LATE MR. KOFI  ATTA ANNAN, FORMER SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UN

The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ghana has granted approval for a state funeral with full military honours for the late Mr. Kofi Atta Annan, former Secretary General of the UN who died on Friday, August 18, 2018 in Bern – Switzerland, on Thursday, September 13, 2018.

The mortal remains of Mr. Kofi Atta Annan will arrive at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday 10 September 2018 at 1600 hours. It will be received by His Excellency the President at a brief military ceremony.

The mortal remains will lie in state for filing past and paying of last respect by the public and dignitaries respectively on Tuesday, 11 and Wednesday, 12 September, 2018, at the Foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) from 1000 to 1600 hours daily.

There will be a funeral service at the Auditorium of AICC on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 0900 hours. This will be preceded by filing past and paying of last respect by VVIPs only from 0730 to 0830 hours.

As part of the pre-burial activities, a symposium was held in honour of the late former UN Secretary General His Excellency Dr. Kofi Annan, a Nobel Peace Laureate, iconic and illustrious international Civil Servant and Diplomat on the theme “Celebrating Kofi Annan: A World Class Statesman” at the Auditorium of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) on Friday, September 7, 2018. The University of Ghana will also hold an Evening of Remembrance in honour of the late Mr. Kofi Atta Annan, former Chancellor of the University on Friday 7th September, 2018.

It is expected that Heads of State, high ranking United Nations Officials including the Secretary General and other high profile international personalities will attend the funeral.

This state funeral has been planned bearing in mind the departing wishes of Mr. Kofi Atta Annan and the steering committee expects the support and cooperation of the general public.
