Management of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in the Bono region has started disinfecting about 147 Senior High Schools (SHS) within the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo region.
The move is part of the ongoing nationwide exercise to eradicate bedbugs in Senior High Schools.
According to the General Manager of Zoomlion in the old Bono-Ahafo area, Mrs. Esther Abayeta Asadoo, the two weeks exercise would be meaningless if one bedbug gets into the dormitory after the disinfection.
She consequently urged parents to spray the belongings of their wards before they return to school to avoid reintroduction of bed bugs.
The Company which was contracted by the Ministry of Education for the exercise has so far rid Senior High Schools in the Eastern, Central and Ashanti regions of bedbugs.
In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, the General Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, Mrs. Esther Abayeta Asadoo said, bedbugs are a threat to schools, thus the two weeks disinfection exercise, targeting about 147 Senior High Schools in the three regions seeks to bring relief to the institutions
She said, through the spraying, it was discovered that schools were also habouring other reptiles including scorpions in classrooms and dormitories.
Mr Abayeta Asadoo indicated if one bedbug gets into the dormitory after spraying it will spread and defeat the purpose for the exercise. She, therefore, called on parents to disinfect the belongings of their wards, particularly mattresses, pillows and chop boxes.
