Qatar, the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup has celebrated its National Day in it’s home country and other parts of the World where it has diplomatic ties. In Ghana, Qatar Charity  –  Qatar’s humanitarian NGO  – marked the day in Accra feting brilliant but needy children. The Qatar National Day is celebrated on the 18th of December every year.

Qatar National Day is celebrated to commemorate the Unification of the State of Qatar. In Ghana, the Qatar Charity made needy children the focal point of the celebration by providing them with food and other items. Qatar Charity, the humanitarian arm of the State of Qatar,  supports the development of less privileged communities across the world to ensure that they live in dignity and have the opportunity to develop their God-given capabilities.

The children sang the National Anthems of Ghana and Qatar to symbolize the strong friendship between the two nations. Apart from food, the children also received T-Shirts, Caps and School bags from the Qatar Charity Ghana Office. Qatar’s deputy ambassador to Ghana, Abdul Rahman Al-Jarba reaffirmed the commitment of the State of Qatar to provide more funding for Qatar Charity to implement more projects in the coming year.

The Qatar Charity Country Director, Mr. Hassan Owda mentioned that the NGO would double the number of sponsored children from the current 5,000 to 10,000.

“Our plan for next year is to expand our services. For example, we have 5,000 sponsored orphans, and our target is to expand and replicate this number and have 10,000 by the end of the year.”

The charity says its strategy for the ensuing year is to improve cooperation with the Government of Ghana, international donor agencies, local organizations, and traditional authorities to increase the number and sustainability of such projects to serve the beneficiaries over the long term, and to help achieve the SDGs by 2030.
