The Bui Power Authority, BPA, has handed over a mechanized borehole system to the people of Alavanyo-Abehenease in the Volta Region.
The Authority has its Tsatsadu micro-hydroelectric dam located at Alavanyo and the water facility forms part of the Authority’s corporate social responsibility to the people.
The Forty Two thousand, Four Hundred and Forty Ghana Cedis facility has an overhead water storage tank with a five thousand litre capacity.
Inaugurating it, the Chief Executive of the Bui Power Authority Mr. Kofi Dzamesi hoped the facility will help to sustain the Bui Power Authority’s long-standing relationship with the communities within which it operates.
He said the Bui Power Authority as part of its operations obtained information from the Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The data, based on water samples from the catchment communities in Alavanyo Abehenease traditional area, showed that the source of drinking water was not the safest.
“In recognition of the importance of safe drinking water and improved health conditions, Bui Power Authority took the initiative to provide safe drinking water for the area.” CEO, BPA narrates.
Mr. Dzamesi said the initial plan was to construct a hand pump borehole but upon further engagement with stakeholders, a mechanized borehole system was recommended.
He appealed to the people to take good care of the facility so that it serves them for a long time.
He also advised the chief of the area and his community leaders to put in place a team to supervise its use.
Mr. Dzamesi assured the people of BPA’s continued support in the development of the area.
The Chief of Alavanyo-Abehenease, Togbe Kunde thanked the Bui Power Authority for the gesture.
He, among other requests, asked for a bigger water storage tank to store more water to avoid using the pumping machine at all times.
Accompanied by some directors and staff of the Authority, Mr. Dzamesi also paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Alavanyo Traditional Area, Togbega Attakora.
