The Chairman of the Fundraising Committee, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams said the building of the National Cathedral is not for political expediency admitting that anything major will attract criticism.
Duncan Williams who is the Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International Ministry, was speaking at a dinner to raise funds for the construction of the National Cathedral.
A fund raising campaign for the much talked about National Cathedral has been launched in Accra.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who launched the campaign at a dinner last night pledged one hundred thousand Ghana cedis as his personal contribution for the project and called on corporate Ghana to support the course.
He noted that the Cathedral will serve as a gesture of thanks giving to God for his favour and Grace to God and also help redeem a pledge he made to God before being elected president.
The National Cathedral which will have a seating capacity of five thousand will house chapels, baptistery and serve as auditorium for National events and celebrations.
The facility will include a grand central hall, a music school, art gallery, retail shop and will house Africa’s first ever Bible Museum and documentation centre.
The construction of the National Cathedral represents a significant moment in Ghana’s history.
As a deeply religious nation, the Cathedral provides a historic opportunity to put God at the centre of the nation’s affairs and serve as symbol of eternal and continuing gratitude to God his blessings he continue to shower on Ghana.
The state has provided the land and soliciting support from the church and the private sector to raise the needed funds for the project. Co- Chair of the Fund raising Committee, Fred Oware outlined activities to raise funds for the project.
President Akufo Addo was grateful to the members of the Board of Trustees and members do the Fundraising Committee for their commitment towards the project.
He said the response of the Christian community and Corporate Ghana towards the Fundraising ceremony is a sign that Ghana is willing to build the National Cathedral.
He called on benevolent institutions to donate towards the project stating that state will not bare the cost of the project.
The fundraising campaign will be replicated in other regions and outside Accra.
