An Accra Circuit Court has granted an order to the Ghana Police Service to destroy 256 fertilizer sacks of certified cannabis.

The Judge, Isaac Addo directed that the destruction of the substances should be carried out in the presence of officials from the Police Service, Environmental Protection Authority, Narcotics Control Commission, a Government Analyst and the media.

ASP Seth Frimpong who moved the application for the order to destroy the substances said some of the cannabis have been compressed into slaps.

He submitted that the exhibits are bulky and have occupied the office of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Police CID making it difficult for smooth administrative work coupled with the health implications.

ASP Frimpong said some of the exhibits have no suspects involved, the Attorney General’s Office has also advised against the prosecution of some of the suspects and in some cases the accused persons have been discharged for want of prosecution.
