Police investigations have discovered four more houses and two cars bought by accused persons from the monies allegedly stolen from the residence of former Minister of Sanitation Cecilia Dapaah.
The Prosecutor DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye said the two cars were purchased at a cost of 600 thousand cedis. He said the discovery was made after the last adjourned date on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
The Prosecution substituted the previous charge sheet with a new one although the pleas of the accused persons are yet to be taken. Alleged father of the seventeen-year-old former house help of Madam Dapaah, Kwaku Botwe was discharged by the court following the amendment of the charge sheet. DSP Nyamekye pleaded for more time to complete investigations and retrieve further property.
He also mentioned some suspects yet to be arrested. The Defense Counsel pleaded for bail for the seven accused persons, arguing that they have been in custody for more than a month and have cooperated with investigations.
The Judge Afia Owusua Appiah, however, admitted two of the accused persons said to be lactating mothers to bail. They were granted bail in the sum of one million cedis with three sureties to be justified. The sureties are to deposit their Passports and Ghana cards.
The Judge directed the defense lawyers to provide evidence of the two being lactating mothers. She further ordered the defense to put in a formal application for bail for the other accused persons.
The case has been adjourned to August 22, 2023.
