The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has announced the resolution of the long-standing issue of migrating staff at Colleges of Education onto the university grades structure.
In a statement issued on 27 January 2025, the FWSC revealed that a Migration Committee was formed on 29 August 2024 to address the matter. The committee included representatives from the FWSC, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Ministry of Finance, Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), Ministry of Education, and the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).
“We are pleased to announce that the outstanding issue of migrating the staff of the Colleges of Education onto the university grades structure has been resolved. The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department paid beneficiaries during the January 2025 payment window,” the statement confirmed.
The FWSC also announced that research allowance top-ups have been disbursed to all Colleges of Education, with the exception of Akrokerri College of Education, whose payment is still being processed.
The Commission commended GTEC, the Ministry of Finance, CAGD, the Ministry of Education, and PRINCOF for their collaborative efforts in addressing the concerns raised by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).
The FWSC urged CETAG to end its strike and resume academic activities at the Colleges of Education.
“We assure CETAG that the government is committed to resolving any post-migration issues that may arise and encourage a harmonious approach to ensuring the smooth operation of the Colleges of Education,” the statement added.
The resolution is expected to pave the way for stability and progress in the Colleges of Education across the country.
