The Chief Justice, His Lordship Anim Yeboah joined the people of Oti region to inaugurate a District Court in the Krachi Nchumuru.
He said the Judiciary is mandated by the Constitution to administer justice to Ghanaians but this has been construed by the lack of physical infrastructure and these have over the years been the problem of effective operations of the Court generally.
His Lordship said the sitting of the Court is part of the effects by the Judiciary Service to make Justice easily accessible to the people of Ghana.
He again advised the District Assembly and Staff of the Judiciary Service to ensure the highest maintenance culture for the facility and the equipment.
The Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu who was grateful to the President said “the Community can now seek justice without spending more money”, like they used to do when there was no Court .
He said, the government of the New patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of His Excellency ,the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has once again fulfilled his promise to the people of Krachi Nchumuru of improving the access to justice system to ensure even the development and fair distribution of the National resources. “The creation of the Oti region has no doubt been a blessing to the good people out Oti Region. It has generally accelerated development and particularly improve some key areas of our socio- economic life”, according to the Oti Regional Minister.
He added that, the reflection of the judicial system in the Krachi Nchumuru District is traced back to the year 1946 when a Court was established in Chinderi by the Colonial District Commissioner ,J.S Bernard as a native tribunal or Native authority Court to settle petty and trivial disputes.
Further, the Native Court metamorphosed into the present-day Magistrate Court during the era of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) regime.
However, the the old Colonial Court building was in a deplorable state. Through the paramount Chief of Nchumuru Traditional Area,Nana Obrempong Kanya ll,the Court building was renovated to continually serve the people as the magistrate Court.
During a visit by the former Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana ,Her ladyship Mrs. Gloria Akuffo, she bemoaned the deplorable state of the old Court building. She directed that ancillary facilities should be constructed to create a congenital working environment for staff since the traditional authorities had already given land to the judiciary.
The accomplishment of this mandate coupled with it’s inauguration by the judicial service of Ghana and Krachi Nchumuru District Assembly came as a relief to the people of the district as the reopening of the Court has been timely to strengthen justice in the district. Since the closure of the Magistrate Court, cases had to be sent to Krachi West Magistrate Court for adjudication, which usually becomes a burden to individuals seeking redress and the security machinery..
He asked the people of Krachi Nchumuru to seek justice through the legal way.
The District Chief Executive, Nkrumah Ogyile who was happy said his people can now seek justice in their own district.
“The construction of the new Court building is a testament to our commitment to justice and rule of law. It represents the collective effort of our community to ensure we have a fair and impartial system of justice that serves all citizens”, he noted.
The Chief Justice was accompany by other Judges from the High court and the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Alhassan Shani.
