Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to China, Dr Charles Dwamena has charged a group of twenty five (25) African students undergoing a two-week basic Midwifery Assistance and First Aid training at the Wenzhou Medical University to put more efforts into their training so as to become Angels of life in their various communities back in Africa.
Speaking at the Commencement Ceremony of the 2nd edition of the training program, Dr Charles Dwamena, who is also the co-initiator of the program, highlighted the need for everyone, especially non-medical personnel, to have some basic knowledge in first aid and by extension, Midwifery assistance.
According to him, it becomes so important because of the challenges facing most African countries with regards to healthcare and that should there be someone in every community with some life saving knowledge in Midwifery, a number of labor-related deaths could be totally avoided.
The Vice President of the University, Prof Cao Jianming who welcomed participants to the University, tasked them to justify the resources being spent in training them by taking active part in all the activities so they can master some basic skills by the end of the program. He indicated that, the University considers this a social responsibility and that so far as there are people who are willing to allow themselves to be trained so they can in turn help people in their communities, the University will also be willing to spend resources in training them.
Mr Ding Xin, of the Center of People to People Exchange of the Chinese Ministry of Education who represented the Minister indicated that the Chinese Government places a lot of emphasis on building people to people exchanges as it is one of the ways of building sustainable friendship between nations. He commended the University and initiators for starting such a project and advised participants to make maximum use of the opportunity given them.
The Midwifery Assistance Training Program is a program aimed at impacting basic Midwifery and First Aid skills to non- medical African students to enable them assist in emergency situations in their various communities in Africa. The program started in August 2018 and runs over a period of two weeks every year.
The program was jointly proposed by Dr Charles Dwamena, Deputy Ambassador of Ghana to China, Madam Dong QiXin, Executive Director of Beijing Ambridge and Madam Nancy, Chairperson of the Tanzania- China Friendship Association.
Wenzhou Medical University and it’s first and second affiliated hospitals are the implementing institutions.
