A CHPS compound at Akorwu-Bana in the Yilo-Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region which is 95 percent complete is now a white elephant and has been left at the mercy of the weather for the past five years.
The people are therefore appealing to Government through the Municipal Assembly to make the facility operational to enhance health care delivery.
GBC’s Michael Kenetey reports that the facility which is left with electricity, manhole, toilet, and staff to commence its operation has been abandoned, a situation which is creating inconvenience to the people of the community and its environs.
In an interview with GBC News, the Assembly Member for Akorwu-Bana electoral area, Michael Ahusa, said the absence of a health facility in the community has caused lots of deaths in the area.
“They started this CHPS compound around 2015 and nobody is coming for it. We are facing problems when we go to hospital.”

A former Assembly Member of the Area, Thomas Kofi Teye under whose regime the construction of the CHPS Compound commenced also pleaded with government to help complete the facility to enhance its operation, adding that the community is ready to offer its support.
The Health Facility when completed, will serve communities like Obusumasua, Adupey, Asiafo and Amanfro.
The community members are pleading with the government, NGOs, and philanthropists to help construct the road leading to the town since it is in a deplorable state.
A community member, Odjer Small spoke on the deplorable state of the road and the danger that the absence of the health facility poses to them.
Coincidentally, the News Team met somebody who suffered a snake-bite but due to the absence of health facility in the area and the absence of a vehicle due to the deplorable nature of the road, his family members had to resort to herbal treatment.
‘Ghana Today’ is of the view that much focus should be on rural areas in terms of developments.
