Christians across the globe are today commemorating Good Friday to usher in this year’s Easter celebration.
Good Friday, also known as Holy Friday, which officially commences the Easter festivities is celebrated to mark the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary to atone for the sins of mankind.
Holy Friday is observed as part of the Paschal Triduum, which is the final three days of Lent and Holy Week on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday.
Members of Christian denominations including Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists, Anglicans and Protestants observed the Holy Friday with worship services, prayer and vigils alongside fasting and alms giving.
Catholics celebrate Baptism and the anointing of the sick as the only sacraments during this time.
Some churches in Ghana are holding services in their auditoriums under strict COVID-19 protocols while others will mark the event virtually.
