2024 Regional Cleanest Competition launched to boost Ghana’s cleanliness campaign

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Lydia Syram Alhassan, has launched the 2024 Regional Cleanest Competition, an initiative designed to support the government’s cleanliness campaign and promote environmental care.

In her keynote address, Madam Alhassan reaffirmed the government’s and ministry’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and logistics to sustain the initiative, aimed at making Ghana a cleaner and more environmentally conscious nation.

She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in maintaining a clean environment, encouraging citizens to take ownership of their surroundings and strive for excellence in cleanliness.

The Regional Cleanest Competition, organized by Graphic Communication Group and Zoomlion Ghana, aims to promote a healthy competitive spirit among regions, driving them to excel in waste management, sanitation, and environmental sustainability.

Madam Lydia Syram Alhassan, emphasized that since the launch of the National Sanitation Campaign by the President in 2017, the ministry has undertaken various initiatives to achieve the President’s vision of cleaner cities.

She encouraged municipal assemblies to embrace this new challenge and ensure its sustainability, stressing the importance of collective efforts in maintaining a clean environment.

The Managing Director of Graphic Communication Group, Atto Afful, emphasized that the Regional Cleanest Competition is designed to enhance Ghana’s sanitation and attract more tourists to the country. He assured that the initiative will be an annual program, aiming to promote continuous improvement in sanitation and environmental sustainability.

An eight-member technical committee was also inaugurated to oversee the successful implementation of the initiative. The committee was tasked with executing their mandate impartially, without bias towards any region, and ensuring a high level of competition among the regions.
