On his second day appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee, a key witness in the leaked audio discussing the plan to remove the Inspector General of Police, COP George Alex Mensah, mentioned that his meeting with the former NPP Chairman, Chief Bugri Naabu, was based on recommendations by a colleague officer.

The former Commissioner of Police stated that his meeting with Bugri Naabu was on the invitation of the latter to discuss the possibility of him becoming the next Inspector General of Police. He added that Chief Bugri Naabu revealed to him plans that are underway to remove the current IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office and the need for a fitting replacement.

Mr. Mensah further mentioned that, Chief Bugri Naabu made it known to him during their meeting that it was on the recommendation of one Police Officer that led to his invitation. He said the police officer recommended him to Bugri Naabu as one that is capable enough of reshaping the image and service of the Ghana Police Service because the current IGP was out of favour from both the security personnel and the government in general.

COP Mensah stressed to the committee that the impression he generated from the meeting with Chief Bugri Naabu was that of an IGP Scouting process. He said Bugri Naabu made it clear to him during the meeting that he was dissatisfied with the works of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and therefore the intelligence gathered proved that he (COP George Alex Mensah) was the perfect choice for the job.
