Ghana has joined the global community to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day, with the theme “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity”. This year’s commemoration emphasizes the vital role young people play in promoting integrity and combating corruption.

In Accra, Ghana, on December 9, 2024, the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) marked the day with a press release, highlighting the need for youth involvement in the fight against corruption. The GII urged stakeholders to create avenues for youth participation in anti-corruption activities and hold governments accountable for their promises.

Also, this year’s commemoration highlights the vital role young people play in combating corruption. “As we commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day, we recognize the critical role young people play in combating corruption.”

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) also emphasizes the importance of youth involvement in the fight against corruption. “Young people are the future leaders and decision-makers. Their participation is crucial in shaping a corruption-free world.”

The press release stated that Ghana’s incoming administration has made several anti-corruption promises, including reviewing Public Financial Management Acts, strengthening financial management practices in the sports sector, and reforming the Computerised School Selection & Placement System (CSSPS) for merit-based placement.

The GII urged stakeholders to create avenues for youth participation in anti-corruption activities and hold governments accountable for their promises. “Fighting corruption with young people is crucial for real progress. Let’s pledge to live in a society free from corruption, built on transparency, responsibility, accountability, and openness.”
