The Accra High Court has directed that the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, be properly served with a contempt process through the Speaker of Parliament.
A member of the Board of the National Cathedral, Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, also known as Rev. Kusi Boateng, filed a contempt case against Mr. Ablakwa, after he was captured on video allegedly kicking a court injunction document served by a bailiff.
Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah said per the records before the court, the respondent has not been served with any contempt procedure, and the court has also not made any order for such process.
He held that what the lawyer for Mr. Ablakwa, Thaddeus Sory, procured either from social media or from the applicant cannot be taken as service of the contempt processes.
In view of this, he ordered that all necessary legal steps be taken to serve Mr. Ablakwa. The case has been adjourned sine die.
Some leaders of the NDC, including Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson and Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, were in court to show solidarity.
There was a heavy police presence to restore order as scores of supporters of Mr. Ablakwa, clad in red, gathered outside the court premises. They chanted songs amidst drumming and dancing.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Armah Buah said the Minority in Parliament is solidly behind Mr. Ablakwa in his fight against corruption in the country.
