COVID-19: Ghana confirms six more deaths

Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll surged to 358 from a previous 352 after six new deaths were confirmed by the Ghana Health Service on Tuesday.

The latest update as provided by the country’s health management body, via its  COVID-19 designated website showed a further rise in the country’s active cases to 2,174 from a previous 1,924, as of Monday, Jan. 18.

This follows the confirmation of 366 new infections across the country,  brings the country’s case count to 58,431.

The new infections were from tests conducted on January 16, 2021.

So far, a total of 55,899 patients have recovered or been discharged while 98 cases were in severe conditions with 36 cases considered critical.

The active cases, the update said, were being managed in treatment sites, isolation centres across the country, while some were under home management.

Out of the total confirmed cases, 23,001 were from the General Surveillance; 34,429 cases from the Enhanced Contact Tracing, while 1,001 have been recorded from international travelers disembarking  at the Kotoka International Airport since it was reopened on September 1, 2020, the update stated.

So far, a total of 717,279 tests have been conducted.

Out of this, 225,619 are from routine surveillance, 355,309 from contact tracing, and 136,351 from international travelers arriving through the Kotoka International Airport.

The positivity rate is 8.1 per cent.

The Greater Accra and the Ashanti regions continue to be the epicenter of the virus in the country with cumulative cases of 33,017 and 11,401 respectively.
