Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians following his replacement, acknowledging the widespread support and goodwill he has received.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by his Executive Assistant, Nana Osei Afrifa, Dr. Dampare expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for their prayers and encouragement throughout his tenure. He also expressed appreciation to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him as the youngest IGP in the Fourth Republic and to President John Dramani Mahama for their cordial working relationship.

The statement comes after COP Christian Tetteh Yohonu was sworn in as the new IGP, officially succeeding him in Ghana’s top policing role.

His removal as IGP was officially announced on Thursday through a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications.

Dr. Dampare served in the Ghana Police Service for 35 years, rising from General Constable to IGP. He extended his gratitude to religious and traditional leaders, security agencies, civil society organisations, and the international community for their support during his tenure.

Reflecting on his time in office, he praised the contributions of the police force in maintaining security, law, and order, commending the Police Management Board and the rank and file of the service.

Despite his exit, Dr. Dampare reaffirmed his commitment to serving Ghana in any capacity, stating that his dedication to discipline, honour, and integrity remains steadfast.
