ASP Augustine Nkrumah has told the Accra High Court that Daniel Asiedu, one of two persons being tried for the murder of former Abuakwa North MP allegedly committed the crime.

He described Aseidu as a terrible person capable of killing the late Jospeh Boakye Danquah Adu.

ASP Nkrumah, one of the lead investigators in the case, is also the eighth prosecution witness.

During cross examination by the lawyer for the accused, ASP Nkrumah said evidence gathered at the crime scene and residence of Asiedu, such as a stained T-Shirt, handkerchief, cutter, catapult and a knife covered in blood, allegedly linked him to the murder.

According to the witness, ASP Nkrumah, Daniel Aseidu also confessed to the crime, and when he was taken to the crime scene on his own will, he demonstrated how he allegedly committed the crime. ASP Nkrumah added that Asiedu begged for forgiveness after confessing to the crime.

The witness further stated that a supposed girlfriend of Asiedu, Janet Keyera, also attested to the accused person owning the items gathered from his house as evidence.

ASP Nkrumah told the Court that he was unable to tell the number of Police officers who were dispatched to the residence of the late MP after the crime in 2016. He said those details were not in doubt and not necessary to the investigation.

He, however, mentioned that the Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who was then the Greater Accra Regional Commander, was at the crime scene. Lawyer for Asiedu Yaw Dankwah questioned if the IGP would be able to help establish what happened on that fateful day if he were in Court.

ASP Nkrumah responded that. Dr. Dampare was not part of the investigation team. Mr Dankwah then suggested to the witness that his claim that Asiedu murdered the former Abuakwa North MP does not make sense, because considering the stout nature of the deceased, it was impossible for him to be overpowered by Asiedu in an attack.

According to Mr. Dankwah, some three individuals who were impersonating the police and claimed to have been dispatched to the crime scene by the East Legon Police Division are the true killers of JB Danquah Adu and not the client, as claimed by the investigator.
