One person has died from a collapsed building at Sokoban, a suburb of Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti region.
However, personnel from the Kejetia Fire Station who rushed to the scene were able to rescue three others who were also trapped in the rubble.
According to the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DO III Peter Addai, the incident occurred early Sunday, October 21, 2024.
According to him, the incident happened within the Wood Village enclave of the suburb when a single story building collapsed.
Four people, mainly wood workers, were trapped within the rubble.
Following receiving a distress call, a crew from the Kejetia Fire Station was dispatched and, upon arrival, managed to rescue three of those trapped. However, only the body of the other victim was found and subsequently retrieved.
It was handed over to the Police for preservation pending investigations into the circumstances of the incident.
DO II Addai used the occasion to advocate strict adherence to safety protocols at construction sites.
Furthermore, in case of an accident, the importance of a prompt emergency to the Fire Service in an effort to save lives was echoed.
