The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, has introduced security features on the Defective Vehicle, DV and Departure from Port, DP plates to eliminate fake ones in the system.

As a result of the reforms, the Authority has sold 23,000 DV plates as at January 20 this year as compared to 16,311 sold for the whole of last year.

These reforms are to ensure safety of commuters and reduce road carnage.

Throwing more light on the reforms at DVLA, the Deputy Director in charge of Business Development and Innovation, Abraham Zaato, said the security features of the plates have been enhanced but the cost remains the same ¢154.00.

Mr. Zaato said DVLA is leading in the digitisation drive to reduce human contact to eliminate middlemen popularly known as ‘goro boys’ in the system.
